Supporting Property Owners in Sandy Creek
Following the devastating floods that impacted the Sandy Creek community in July, the Travis Central Appraisal District (TCAD) has been working to educate property owners in the area on the resources available to them within the property tax system. To help residents navigate this information, TCAD staff have focused on several initiatives:
Updating Our Records
Our staff has been on the ground in Sandy Creek, inspecting properties to assess damage. We have a dedicated team in marked vehicles, wearing TCAD attire and carrying official IDs, to conduct these inspections and answer taxpayer questions about property taxes. These inspections are key to updating our records and the 2026 appraisal roll so that property owners are taxed accurately in the new year.
Temporary Disaster-Related Exemptions
In addition, TCAD has developed an outreach campaign aimed at educating property owners on temporary disaster-related exemptions and how they can help reduce a property’s 2025 tax bill. In order to be eligible for the exemption, property owners must have suffered damage that totals at least 15% of the property’s total improvement value. Damage to landscaping or trees cannot be included.
Community Events
We understand that, for many, the easiest way to navigate the property tax system is with in-person assistance from our staff. As a result, TCAD has attended several community events, including Sandy Creek Fest, and will host an exemption clinic on Saturday, September 20 to help property owners complete their exemption applications and get answers to their tax questions.
TCAD is committed to supporting recovery efforts by ensuring residents have the most accurate information and accessible resources to navigate the property tax system. Our ongoing efforts to update appraisal records, educate residents on exemptions, and provide in-person assistance at community events are all part of a larger mission to help property owners during this challenging time.
Sandy Creek Disaster Exemption Clinic
TCAd will host an exemption clinic for Sandy Creek residents on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Round Mountain Community Center (14340 Round Mountain Rd). This clinic is an opportunity for property owners to receive one-on-one assistance with their exemption applications and get answers to all of their property tax questions. Attendees should bring repair quotes and receipts related to the damage to their property.
